Data and the law = something else.

The law will be shaped by the data revolution just as much as will everything else.

That is why metaphors will go only so far.

What data “is like” (data “as”), e.g.,

  • oil,
  • an asset class,
  • a commodity,
  • money

won’t explain what really is new and foundational about data in our age, as oil, asset classes, commodities and money already form very much the basis of our society.

What data “actually is” (data “is”) is the only path forward for the “data lawyer.”
